Jump Rope

posted Mar 26, 2016, 7:57 PM by Keith Savage

Requirements:

  1. Thick heavy rope
  2. Padded weight at the end of the rope if required.

Instructions:

  • Simple is an understatement for this game but the Scouts seem to really enjoy it.
  • Form a circle smaller than the radius of the rope.
  • The leader stands in the middle of the circle and starts spinning the rope around.
  • The aim of the game is to jump over the rope - not letting it touch any part of you.
  • If the rope does touch you then you're out.
  • The last scout remaining is the winner.
  • Depending on the weight and thickness of the rope you may need to weight it at the end to help carry on it's momentum.

Dividing Amoebae

posted Mar 26, 2016, 7:54 PM by Keith Savage

Instructions:

  • 2 Scouts start the game off by linking arms together to for the "Amoebae". All other plays spread out around the hall and have to avoid contact with the Amoebae.
  • If the Amoebae touch another Scout then they assimilated into Amoebae and link arms with the Amoebae Scouts.
  • Once the Amoebae chain reaches 4 Scouts then the Amoebae splits into 2 chains of 2.
  • The last Scout not to be touched by the Amoebae is the winner.
  • The advantage of this game is that nobody is out of the game until the end.

Tag Ball

posted Nov 18, 2008, 8:02 AM by Patrick Hill   [ updated Mar 26, 2016, 7:44 PM by Keith Savage ]

This one is fun.  The one person has a soft ball.  He cannot move, and the goal is for him to tag the other players with the ball.  As the players are tagged, they're out.

Instructions:

  • One person is on and holds a ball.
  • This person can not move while they have hold of the ball.
  • The idea is to throw the ball and hit somebody who is not tagged.
  • If you hit somebody not tagged then they are out of the game.
  • After you have thrown the ball you are allowed to retrieve it ready for your next throw.
  • The last person remaining is the winner.

Table Soccer

posted Nov 18, 2008, 8:00 AM by Patrick Hill   [ updated Mar 26, 2016, 7:51 PM by Keith Savage ]

This is a fun game.  All of the boys are involved, but only four play at a time.

Requirements:

  1. Tables
  2. Soccer Ball

Instructions:

  • Split the troop into equal sized teams (patrols if possible). Each team has a base which is a table on its side.

  • Place the tables equidistant from each other (each corner of the room if there are four teams) with the face of the table pointing to the centr of the room. Give each Scout in each team a number from 1 to however many Scouts there are in each team. Next place a soccer ball in the center of the room.

  • The leader calls out a number and only that Scout assigned that number from each team runs to get the soccer ball. The idea of the game is to kick the soccer ball against another teams table face. While the game is commencing all other Scouts should remain behind their teams table and NOT interfere with the game. If they do then their team automatically looses that game.
  • To score the game then 2 points is awarded to the team who's player manages to kick the ball against an opposing teams table. The team who's table is hit gains no points and all other teams are awarded 1 point.
